In a shocking incident in Puttur, Mangaluru, a college student was violently attacked by a male peer after rejecting his romantic advances. The disturbing event occurred on Tuesday morning as the victim was on her way to college. According to news agency ANI, the attacker, known to the victim, confronted her and, upon her rejection, assaulted her with a knife, severely injuring her hand.

 Police Response and Investigation

Superintendent of Police Yathish N. reported that the suspect was immediately apprehended by the Puttur police, who acted swiftly after reviewing CCTV footage of the incident. The attacker was found in a state of shock, and the victim was quickly transported to a government hospital where she is receiving treatment for her injuries.

The incident caused considerable commotion as news spread, resulting in a large crowd gathering at the college and hospital. Initial reports suggested that college officials had pressured the victim to falsely attribute her injury to a piece of glass, but this claim has been refuted by the ongoing investigation.

 Official Actions and Current Status

To manage the situation, the Puttur police intervened to control the crowds at both locations. A formal case has been filed at the D. K. Women’s Police Station under various legal provisions, including sections of the POCSO Act.
